Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to a five-year deal with Real Madrid worth roughly over £90m to make him the world's best-paid footballer and certainly ensures his stay with the Spanish giants.

Madrid confirmed the news on their official website that Ronaldo would sign his new contract as well as president Florentino Perez on Sunday.

The new deal will see Ronaldo earn almost twice as much a season as Gareth Bale and is a move to sooth his bruised ego after losing the title of the world's most expensive player to the £86m Welshman.

Under his new deal, Ronaldo will see £15m a year after tax and before bonuses. It also ends Manchester United's plans to persuade Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford.

The restoration of Ronaldo as Real's most expensive player could help Bale ease the tension in the Madrid locker room as well.

When asked what he thought about the potential signing of Bale, Ronaldo said: 'I have my opinion but I am not going to give it publicly. I think the players we have signed already are very good. They are Spanish and know the league.'

However, Bale received a warm welcome on Wednesday as he trained for the first time with his new teammates. Ronaldo even met Bale in the club's parking lot and shook hands with the Welshman, asking how he was and welcoming him to the club.
