The Yankees and the Red Sox are playing again on Saturday afternoon after another crushing loss for New York with a comeback by Boston 9-8 and now the team has dipped behind the Indians and the Orioles at 2.5 games back in the wild card and a win is a must at Yankee Stadium as the team continues to try for a playoff push with John Lackey on the mound facing off against David Huff.
The Yanks had one of their best pitchers on the mound in Andy Pettitte and he pitched solid but the team couldn't get it done again. The Yankees are running out of time as they hang in the playoff race, as they are behind the Rays and the Oakland A's and now the Orioles and the Indians for the Wild Card and will need to continue playing well to get into it. The Yankees have been able to get ahead of the Royals, but now they are in a slight slump.

The New York Yankees have been playing some fantastic baseball before getting beaten twice by the Sox and despite coming back from a 7-2 deficit on Thursday night, the team and Mariano Rivera could not hold on to win the game, losing 9-8 and now they have to get back on Saturday as well.
The Yankees have gone 6-4 over their last 10 games before the two losses and have been making up ground in the race, but after losing on Thursday night, they can't afford to drop another game in a row after losing Friday against the Red Sox, who have been the best team in the American League East. But of course the last time the Sox had a lead this late in the season they let it get away and that collapse cost plenty of people their jobs, including Terry Francona and now they have the chance to move even farther away from that.
