Buffalo Bills Rumors: Tim Tebow, Vince Young, Greg McElroy or Jimmy Clausen Options With EJ Manuel Injury? Top Quarterbacks Released

The Buffalo Bills have a tough quarterback situation on their hands after both EJ Manuel and Kevin Kolb suffered injuries during the preseason and after previously thinking that Jeff Tuel would start Week 1 against the New England Patriots, a number of quarterbacks were released in Tim Tebow, Vince Young, Jimmy Clausen and Greg McElroy that could come in for a short-term start.

The Bills have a new head coach in Doug Marrone and after signing Kevin Kolb in the offseason and drafting EJ Manuel, both players are dealing with injuries. Manuel underwent a knee procedure and should be ready soon, while Kolb may be done with concussion issues, leaving Tuel as the option. The Bills signed Matt Leinart as a free agent five days ago but released him according to ESPN.com and now with some other names released, the Bills could sign a spot starter for the first couple weeks of the year.

Many felt that Tim Tebow was a fit in the offense when the Jets were looking to trade him and before he signed with the Patriots and now that he has played for two AFC East teams why not make it a third. ESPN.com writer Mike Rodak wrote on Saturday that the Bills could take Tebow and give him a shot after the Patriots released him and while Thad Lewis was traded for and could start over Tuel, Tebow could be interesting as well. Tebow threw two touchdowns in three preseason games and was very up and down, looking in command on some plays and over throwing receivers on many others.

Tebow was placed on waivers by the Patriots and teams like the Bills could go after him by putting a claim on him. Leinart appeared to be an option, but he was released quickly and now the former top 10 pick and Heisman winner is looking for a new job as well after playing for the Bills against Detroit in their last preseason game. Greg McElroy and Vince Young as well as Jimmy Clausen were also released and McElroy comes in after starting a game for the Jets last season after being a seventh round pick a couple years ago.

Matt Simms is still on the roster with Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez as well as Graham Harrell and now McElroy is a free agent after winning a national championship at Alabama. The Jets praised Simms and how he has handled himself as a pro and he played against the Giants on Thursday and threw for 285 yards and could play if Smith struggles and Sanchez is not healthy. McIlroy started over Tebow last season after Sanchez was benched and played against the Arizona Cardinals the previous game and led the team to a win, but he was sacked 11 times against the Chargers and couldn't get anything going.
