South Carolina Gamecocks Schedule 2013 Opens With Tar Heels On ESPN

Aug 29, 2013 03:58 PM EDT

The college football season begins on Thursday August 29 with a nice slate of games and the first one to kick things off will be the South Carolina Gamecocks taking on the North Carolina Tar Heels on ESPN at 6 PM and the game should be an exciting one.

Jadeveon Clowney will get his first chance back on the field since demolishing a Michigan running back last season in the Outback Bowl and he will start his Heisman campaign. Many feel that he is easily the best player in the nation and could be the first true defensive player to win it, but he will have some stiff competition, including from the SEC with names like Aaron Murray, AJ McCarron, TJ Yeldon and Johnny Manziel.

Clowney was a beast last season and while many said that he should just sit out rather than get injured, that isn't his style. The Gamecocks come into the season ready for success as the number six ranked team and they will open at home against the Tar Heels before heading to Georgia for a huge game on September 7 against the Bulldogs. Aaron Murray is a senior and had a fantastic year last year and that game will also be on ESPN.

South Carolina will then host Vanderbilt on ESPN a week later at 7 PM before travelling to UCF two weeks after that on September 28. The team has a decent schedule for the SEC for the rest of the season, hosting Kentucky before travelling to play Arkansas, who will be without quarterback Tyler Wilson after he went to the NFL. The rest of the schedule includes road games at Tennessee and Missouri before coming home to play Mississippi State.

The toughest game in the second half is against the Florida Gators and that comes before add against Coastal Carolina. After that the team will play number eight Clemson to finish the year and that could have huge implications.
