Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron celebrates with the trophy after his team defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their NCAA BCS National Championship college football game in Miami, Florida, January 7."

The NCAA college football season is set to begin on Thursday and with all the talk of Johnny Manziel and his autographs taking up headlines, it's time to look at what the quarterback won last year and who will be the top candidates for the Heisman in 2013 and some names include Jadeveon Clowney, Manziel, AJ McCarron, Tajh Boyd, Braxton Miller as well as Marqise Lee and TJ Yeldon.

Clowney is the favorite to start the season despite being a defensive player and he could end up having a beast season before taking off to the NFL. Manziel will be hard pressed to repeat what he did last season, while Miller is coming off of an undefeated year with Ohio State., McCarron is a sleeper pick here, as he usually isn't in the top crop when it comes to Heisman voting, but after coming back for his senior season and winning two championships, this could be the year that he goes off with players like Amari Cooper and TJ Yeldon returning.

Tajh Boyd and Lee out up great numbers last season and could do so again, but Clemson will be dealing with some very high expectations and Boyd will be in the middle of that. Clowney was amazing last season and made 50 tackles over the year with 13 sacks as well as 37 solo tackles and 20 behind the line and now he comes in as the favorite. Clowney looks like the best player in the SEC and if he has another beast season, he will absolutely get to New York.

Last year Manziel went nuts and passed for 3706 yards and 26 touchdowns and he rushed for 1410 yards and 21 scores and this year he won't be able to surprise anyone. Lee had one of the best seasons last year and could have won after making 118 catches, but he likely won't get that again with Matt Barkley gone. Aaron Murray will be in the running as well, but that could depend on how Georgia plays this season.

Unofficial list:

Jadeveon Clowney

Johnny Manziel

AJ McCarron

Tajh Boyd

Aaron Murray

Braxton Miller

Marqise Lee

TJ Yeldon
