Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Arsene Wenger Plans To Steal Manchester United's Wayne Rooney Despite Chelsea's Continual Pursuit With Third Bid Expected This Week

It appears that there seems to be a dramatic turn of events brewing in the Wayne Rooney transfer saga as Arsenal has belief that they could hijack Chelsea's bid for the Manchester United forward.

Reports suggest that Rooney has re-emerged to be Arsene Wenger's top target as he'll try to capture at least four players before the deadline.

United have maintained all summer that Rooney is not for sale and are adamant he won't be allowed to join Chelsea who are preparing a new £40m bid. But Arsenal believe they have received encouragement that United would be willing to do business with them.

Wenger tried for Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez and also explored the possibility of signing Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

With those players seemingly out of the picture, Wenger has told striker Lukas Podolski that he is still wanted with the Gunners even after the German was linked to rumors of him returning home.

Podolski made his first start of the season with two goals in a 3-1 win at Fulham just hours after it was reported that he could join Schalke on loan.

After watching his side secure a first league win of the campaign, Wenger made it clear he is to keep Podolski.

The Gunners also have in sight QPR's Julio Cesar after his move to Benfica collapsed over wages. The Brazil No.1 who has been on Arsenal's radar all summer wants around £70000 a week.
