The New York Yankees were clinging to life in the MLB playoff race in the American League heading into their series against the Boston Red Sox and after taking two of three games, including one that had some dramatics from Alex Rodriguez, the team is now 65-59 and looking like they have a chance in the wild card.

The Yankees fell behind quickly in the first game of their doubleheader with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday and after winning 8-4 behind a massive game from Robinson Cano, the team is ready to continue their hot hitting. The Yankees have received quote the boost from Alfonso Soriano since trading for him at the deadline and he has been going crazy the past week, hitting a number of home runs and driving in runs at a great pace. Ivan Nova was able to scratch out another win, improving to 7-4 on the season.

The Yankees needed Robinson Cano on Tuesday and he came out in full force against the Blue Jays, going 4-for-4 in the game including blasting himself the 200th home runoff his Yankees career to help get the Yankees the win and he ended up having four hits on the day with four RBIs and he ended up just a triple short of the cycle on the day. Ichiro Suzuki is about to hit a very important milestone in his career, as he now is just one hit away from getting 4,000 combined hits between the MLB and Japan after getting two hits against the Jays in Game 1.

Suzuki is a future Hall of Fame player and this will be his latest accomplishment after going 10 straight season of getting 200 hits and also winning an MVP award, rookie of the year as well as batting titles. Suzuki may end up getting the hit on Tuesday night depending on how the game goes and he will be honored after it goes down. The Yankees are still over seven games back of the red Sox in the division, but now the Wild Card is in slight reach and while they will have to play very well to get into the second spot, they can still do it while playing at this pace.

While Alex Rodriguez has been the center of attention off the field, he has played very well on it and after he was beaned by Ryan Dempster, he got the last laugh, as he hit a home run off the pitcher and also saw him get hit with a suspension. The Yankees rallied around A-Rod getting hit and now they are putting some solid games together and they could keep up the chance for a four game sweep against the Blue Jays with a win on Tuesday night, as Mark Buehrle is on the mound for Toronto and he will face off against Phil Hughes, who is just 4-12 this season.
