The Los Angeles Angels are heading into town to the play the New York Yankees at the Stadium in the Bronx and heading into the season this could have been looked at as a potential playoff matchup, but after the way things have played out, neither team may end up even making the postseason this year.

The Yankees are hanging in the wild card race at 60-57, but the American League East is likely too far gone now, with the Red Sox leading by 9.5 games and the team will need to play some great baseball just to make it in. The Yankees got a fantastic start from Hiroki Kuroda on Monday night against the Angels and now they will bring ace CC Sabathia to the mound even though he has not been very ace like this season. Kuroda has been the ace for the Yankees and now Sabathia will try and right the ship after going 9-10 with a 4.73 ERA this year.

The Yankees have struggled to score runs all season and that could be an issue again this year and now that Sabathia is on the mound, he could try and get his first win since early July. Sabathia has struggled this season and he missed out on a win after Mo Rivera blew a save in the ninth inning and lost to the Chicago White Sox 6-5 in 12 innings last week and he is 0-3 with a plus-8.00 ERA over his last five starts. The pitcher said that he feels okay and that he hopes things will turn around in the Angels series.

The last time he pitched against the team he won and allowed two runs in eight innings and the Yankees will hope it is more of that style of pitching. Sabathia has gone 4-3 with a 2.60 ERA in his last seven starts against the Angels and now the team will try and win again after taking the first game on Monday 2-1. The Angels had the bases loaded in the ninth inning with David Robertson on the mound, but he was able to get a strikeout to end things after Rivera blew two straight saves.

The Angels are having an awful season and aren't anywhere close to the playoffs and after bringing in Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols over the past two seasons, the team has nothing to show for it. The Yankees are ranked 26th and 27th in runs and 29th in slugging percentage, while the Angels have won just 53 games and somehow are ranked eighth in runs, sixth in batting average and sixth in on base and slugging percentage.
