The Pittsburgh Pirates look to bounce back from a horrific 0-13 stomping at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals. They face a Colorado Rockies team that was tossed around in Atlanta, allowing a total of 40 runs in four games. The Rockies have yet to give up on their season, but the Pirates will look to defeat anybody standing in their path as they are baseball's best team. Gerrit Cole will toe up the rubber for the home team. He will look to bounce back from a loss against the Miami Marlins where he surrendered three earned runs over six innings pitched. It wasn't a bad performance, but Cole was matching up against baseball's future ace, Jose Fernandez. Cole went seven innings, allowing three earned runs on just four hits. He walked two and struckout eight.
Cole has been on fire as of late. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in his last 10 starts, at one point winning four consecutive games. The Pirates have struggled offensively when Cole is on the mound, but they will look to continue picking on the Rockies pitching.
Jhoulys Chacin, who is 9-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 2013, will take the hill for Colorado. He has truly been lights out in his last 10 starts, going 6-2 with a 2.88 ERA. He took the no-decision in his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers after going seven innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, one walk, while striking out four.
The Rockies are eight games under .500 and 8.5 games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers. However, the division has been pretty week this season, if the Dodgers can't stay hot, the Rockies might still have a chance to salvage their season.
