Greg Jennings does not understand what all the drama is about. As the Minnesota Vikings enter into training camp, the wide receiver was making headlines for everything other than his playing abilities. First Jennings referred to the Green Bay Packers as a "cookie cutter" organization and then he called out quarterback Aaron Rodgers for being a bad teammate and spotlight hog. Now, Jennings is backtracking and apologizing for something he is not sure he said.
After practice, reports asked Jennings if he had reached out to Rodgers after the off-hand comments he made about the quarterback.
"No. For what? I'm apologizing right now," Jennings said, via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "I don't really recall saying anything negative about Aaron or anyone over there, but hey, I apologize."
So, Jennings does not recall those comments about the media falling in love with Rodgers and the quarterback letting that get to his head? Jennings claimed Rodgers was not able to see his flaws because the press was too busy telling him how great he is. The former Packers' receiver said Rodgers was no longer concerned about the team and only worried about himself.
"Aaron's a phenomenal quarterback," Jennings said. "He knows that. No one needs to tell him that. What he's done over the course of the last five years? Phenomenal. He set the bar high for quarterbacks in this league. He set the bar high for offenses in this league. Everything I say is all out of fun. I'm just saying something just to say it. They know that's not me."
Perhaps head coach Leslie Frazier got to him before this interview? Frazier was not too happy to hear about his newest wide receiver's comments about their rival team. Frazier urged Jennings to move on and that the Vikings were not in the business of trash talking about other organizations or players.
Jennings told reports that Frazier told him to keep interviews about the Vikings and only the Vikings. Both Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers laughed off the statements made by Jennings. Rodgers said he is only concerned about the players currently in the locker room and no one else.
Jennings does not need to give the Packers any motivation this season. He is expected to become Christian Ponder's right-hand man and probably should stay focused on that. For the record, Minnesota and Green Bay will face off Novermber 24 at Lambaeu Field. Jennings should be welcomed with open arms.
