Aaron Rodgers Rumors: Will He Honor Todd Sutton Bet Following Braun's Suspension? (Tweet)

Jul 23, 2013 12:42 PM EDT

Ryan Braun had to swallow his words after his suspension Monday evening. Now, Green Bay Packers' quarterback, Aaron Rodgers might have to pay up for Braun's "mistake". No need to explain what happened, here's the exchange between the fan and the quarterback.

Rodgers will have to put his money where his fingertips are. Almost exactly 17 months after this exchange, Braun was suspended by Major League Baseball. So how much money are we talking about?

Well, according to USA Today, Rodgers' salary for 2013 was $39.5 thanks to a lucrative signing bonus. Now, I'm not much of a better, but maybe Rodgers should stick to what he knows about his sport. For decades now, the sport of baseball has gained popularity, but with the increase in popularity, more and more stories about cheaters are coming out every year.

Last season, the most crushing story was Melky Cabrera's suspension for his use of illegal substance during the midst of what was becoming a career year. When looking at his physique, it was difficult to determine his PED use. He had not bulked up from one year to the other. There were no sudden physical changes that would have pointed to the use of enhancement drugs. Cabrera was on route to shatter Pete Rose's single-season record. That never came true as the outfielder was suspended and erased from the San Francisco Giants' 2012 story.

Braun has embarrassed himself, ruined his legacy and though it won't really happen, he could have left a dent in Rodgers finances. It's not being naive. As fans, we look up to these hitters and though certain things might not make sense, we prefer to give players the benefit of the doubt. Rodgers and Braun are the biggest sports stars in Wisconsin, it's natural that they would support each other.

The moral of the story to fans and Rodgers; the next time you want to support a player, send him a tweet or a text, but don't put your money on the line, especially when you're set to get a lucrative extension.
