New Orleans Pelicans Rumors: Tyreke Evans Willing To Become Team's Sixth Man, Greg Oden Contract Could Be In The Works As Teams Chances Increase After Meeting In Vegas

As the New Orleans Pelicans continue to build up their roster for the upcoming season, they've received some promising news from a player who as no problem putting ego aside for the betterment of the team.

Tyreke Evans has started in all but 10 of his 257 career games in four NBA seasons, but despite his status as a starter, Evans is open to exploring a sixth man role from day one for the Pelicans.

Evans signed with the Pelicans this summer, after the Kings decided not to match the four-year, $44 million offer sheet. But New Orleans also picked up Jrue Holiday from the Sixers, and they still have Eric Gordon in place, who should be ready to contribute meaningful minutes at the guard spot, as well.

The Pelicans have also been rumored to be one of the teams contending for free agent center Greg Oden, after meeting last week.

New Orleans would enable Oden to make his comeback without the media spotlight and with no immediate pressure to perform at a high ability. This will give him time to bounce back from the knee issues, that have limited the 25-year-old to just 82 career regular season games, at his own pace.

Oden was the top overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft out of Ohio State and has battled numerous knee injuries and hasn't played in the NBA since Dec. 5, 2009. He is coming off his third microfracture knee surgery in February 2012.

Oden has averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 82 career games and has been working out in both Columbus and Indianapolis this past offseason.
