Get ready to hear it all over Madison Square Garden; "Queeeensbridge! Queeeeensbridge!" Metta World Peace is coming to town ladies and gentleman as the forward and the New York Knicks agreed to a two-year deal. There will be a lot of goofiness in New York this season, but World Peace will bring a brand of basketball old-time Knick fans witnessed in the early 90's.
World Peace is one of the best defenders in the NBA, though his troubled past has earned the 14-year veteran some unlucky calls from referees. However, under the big lights of New York, expect World Peace to fit right in, while giving his team a chance to win every time he gets out on the court. World Peace had 1.6 steals per game, to go along with his 12.4 points and five rebounds averaged. He bettered his offense this past year, becoming an integral part of the Los Angeles Lakers' perimeter game. He was a 34 percent three-point shooter, while shooting 40 percent from the floor.
The deal is worth $1.6 million with a player option in the second year. It might seem like little money for World Peace, but the Lakers amnestied the forward as he was expected to make $7 million this past season. World Peace got his money, but he was also able to remain in the NBA as he said he would only return if he played for the Knicks.
If Carmelo Anthony plays defense, aided by Iman Shumpert and a hopefully healthy Tyson Chandler, the Knicks could be one of the most potent teams on defense. Chandler was the 2011-2012 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and in his two seasons in the NBA, Shumpert has 2.3 steals per game. World Peace will be looking to make his sixth straight playoff appearance, while helping the Knicks make their fourth straight postseason appearance following a 2013 season that saw them two wins away from the Eastern Conference Finals.
