English Premier League Transfer News: Wilfried Bony Delighted After Sealing Move to Swansea

Swansea City finally completed the club-record £12 million ($18.2 million) signing of Ivory Coast international Wilfried Bony from Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

This move has been coming for a while, with various factors holding the transfer up; but Swansea will now be ecstatic to have sealed the signing of the powerful forward, who scored 31 goals from 30 league games last season, with Bony agreeing to a four-year contract.

"Everyone has been talking all summer about strikers," Laudrup said. "Well now it is done.

"It's been difficult because everyone is looking to find someone special to score goals. When you do find them, other clubs want them as well.

"You have only got to look at Bony's record last season to see that he is certainly someone who scores goals.

"It's very simple -- the most important thing in football is goals. Yes, you can be very good defensively, but if you don't score goals then you can't win games.

"In many games last season the goals were placed firmly on the shoulders of Michu. And while he did extremely well with 22 goals, you can't put everything on the shoulders of one man, especially when he is not regarded as a center-forward.

"Hopefully Bony, who is very powerful, will take the pressure off and score some of those goals for us, although I am still looking for everyone in the team to chip in."

The £12 million ($18.2 million) fee, which smashes the previous £5.55 million ($8.4 million) paid to Valencia for Spanish winger Pablo Hernandez last summer, is an initial one with the amount set to rise further based on success and appearances.

"This move has been talked about for quite some time, so I am delighted it is all completed," Bony, who is nicknamed 'Daddy Cool' in Holland, said.

"Now it is important that I focus my mind on the challenge ahead because I hope to make the Swansea fans very happy.

"I watched Swansea a lot last season on TV. They have some good players and I like the way they play. I appreciate the style, which is similar to the Dutch way, and I think being at Swansea will help me develop as a player.

"I believe it's the right step for me; the perfect move. I had a lot of offers from all across the world, including England, France, Ukraine, Russia and the UAE.

"But I chose Swansea because it is a good club with a corresponding style, a great manager and, of course, playing in the Premier League. I considered everything and Swansea came out on top."
