The Oakland Raiders were happy to rid themselves of linebacker Rolando McClain after last season due to the trouble he caused off the field and within the locker room and now the former Alabama star has pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
According to ESPN.com, the Baltimore Sun reported that McClain pleaded not guilty to charges and was assigned a Dec. 12 court date, which stems from an incident in which he was arrested in his hometown in Alabama. McClain was the former eighth overall pick in the draft from Alabama and was seen as a future star, but his off the field problems kept him from being successful in the NFL.
The incident here involved McClain yelling curses at police officers as they were trying to break down a crowd of 700 people at a park in Decatur after a fight. The Decatur Police Department said that McClain was asked twice to stop walking after they identified him as he was walking away and said, "You told me to walk and I'm walking." The Ravens signed McClain after he was cut by the Raiders and after dealing with more issues, he announced his retirement.
The Raiders made a mistake by drafting McClain based on how things turned out and later on the team decided it was best to part ways. General manager Reggie McKenzie overhauled the linebacker unit in free agency with Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett and both players are expected to be a big improvement over McClain, who clashed with coaches last season as well.
