New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is arraigned on charges of murder and weapons violations in Attleborough, Massachusetts, after being arrested, June 26, 2013. Hernandez, a 23-year-old rising football star with the New England Patriots, was arrested by police in a murder investigation and fired by the team on Wednesday, another blot on the National Football League's tightly protected image."

The murder of Odin Lloyd that involved former tight end Aaron Hernandez has a number of connections, including through the girlfriend of the former NFL star, as her sister Shanea Jenkins was dating the victim at the time of the crime.

Lloyd's murder sparked worry by police about the location of Jenkins and according to an ABC local report, the authorities had trouble locating her at first, but eventually did. Police were initially worried about her safety after finding the body, but after locating her and seeing Hernandez arrested, the concern was lessened. The sisters now have connections to both men and could eventually be called in as witnesses in the case.

Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday for the murder of Lloyd and he was arraigned and charged in court with first degree murder and he could end up in jail for the rest of his life. Although investigators were concerned for her safety, nothing happened to Jenkins and her sister was in court on Wednesday and was visibly shaken. The sister is Hernandez's baby's mother and lives with him and now she may have to raise the child alone.

In court numerous details emerged about the case, including that Hernandez orchestrated the murder and had issues with Lloyd the night of the murder. He was shot multiple times in an industrial park a mile from the home of Hernandez and he has been tied to five shell casings found. The police searched his home and surrounding areas multiple times and took evidence, but so far no murder weapon has been found.

Hernandez could be facing life in jail and his NFL career is likely over after the Patriots released him. The scrutiny has shown a checkered background and the team will take a cap his after signing him to a $40 million deal earlier.
