Manchester City Transfer News: Edinson Cavani in Talks with Man City and Real Madrid, According to Napoli Striker's Mother

Napoli forward Edinson Cavani, the forward that almost every club wants in their team, is in talks with Manchester City and Real Madrid, according to his mother.

Cavani has been heavily linked with a move to several clubs this summer, with City, Real and Chelsea thought to be the frontrunners.

It was understood, Chelsea had moved up the queue for the Uruguay international, but it now appears a straight shootout between Manchester City and Real Madrid, at least according to the player's mother.

"Edi is dealing with Real Madrid and City," Cavani's mother, Berta Gomez, said in a radio interview in Montevideo, Uruguay."

Gomez said she expects her son's future to be resolved in a couple of weeks' time.

"In two or three weeks, we will know their fate and be able to say more.

"In any case, I assure you Edinson loves Naples and, if he goes, he will never forget the love and affection of the people."

Napoli have insisted the only way Cavani will leave Naples is if the interested club activates the release clause of the player, which amounts to around £53 million ($83 million).

Both Chelsea and City have attempted and failed in trying to broker a swap deal, with the Blues reportedly offering Fernando Torres, who would then be reunited with Rafa Benitez, as part-exchange, while City have thrown in Edin Dzeko.

However, Napoli are reportedly adamant about wanting the full amount for Cavani and have therefore rejected the chances of a cash-plus-player deal.

Cavani, who is currently with the Uruguay national team in preparation for the Confederations Cup, has previously said he dreams of playing for Real Madrid, but also recently admitted he would love to work under Jose Mourinho or Manuel Pellegrini.

It is looking increasingly likely that Cavani will indeed finally leave Napoli, after years of speculation, and whichever club manages to snaffle the player will have quite a few goals guaranteed for next season.
