The Oakland Raiders held their second day of minicamp workouts and after the offense looked flat and unoriganized, the team looked much better on Wednesday and head coach Dennis Allen praised both Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor for showing some solid skills downfield on throws.
According to the Contra Costa Times, the offense looked much better on Wednesday after some bad play on Tuesday, as both quarterbacks Matt Flynn and Terelle Pryor were accurate and fluid while throwing the ball down field. The report says that Flynn hit wideout Rod Streater in tight coverage in a perfect spiral for a catch inside the five yard line and soon after that Pryor connected on a 60-yard pass to Andre Holmes for a touchdown.
Both players showed off the reasons why they are the top two quarterbacks in camp, as Flynn has proven to be accurate in his short playing career in the league, while Pryor is explosive with a strong arm and plays like that can be what keeps him in the running going forward. The team wanted to play better than the previous day and Allen said that he was pleased with the output, as this workout week will be the last for the team before they come together for training camp later on in the summer in July.
Streater said that the team needed to work on timing and the receivers with drops, but he felt that the day went much better than the previous session and he also said that he has been vibing well with Flynn, who is expected to be the starting quarterback when the seasons tarts after he was traded by the Seattle Seahawks. The roster has some question marks at the position after the team released former first round pick Darrius Heyward Bey and now the team will be relying on Streater, Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore to stay healthy without a veteran presence.
The team drafted Brice Butler in the seventh round and he could end up being a sleeper in the slot, but the Raiders are also hoping that Streater can play a bigger role. The team has a lot of production to make up for after Brandon Myers left for the Giants and now adding Josh Cribbs will also help open up the return game and possibly on the offense as well. Streater was undrafted and two players in Conner Vernon and Sam McGuffie are looking to follow suit. Moore will be looked at as the number one option, as he was the highest producing player at the position last season with 51 catches for 744 yards and five touchdowns. Streater played well also, making 39 catches for 584 yards and three touchdowns and now he will be even more of a factor with Flynn.
Rookie Latavius Murray was out with a foot injury, but Dennis Allen said that he will be fine for training camp, while fellow rook Menelik Watson was battling with Khalif Barnes at right tackle and if the season started now the veteran would be ahead, but Allen will give him every chance to win the starting job. The team has its final practice on Thursday.
