New England Patriots quarterback Tim Tebow is happy to be back in the NFL after a short vacation once he was released by the Jets and while he received many offers before signing, one may have slipped by him as the San Angelo Bandits of the Lone Star Football League attempted to sway him with an offer.
According to the team website, the San Angelo Bandits tried to reach out to Tebow while he was still a free agent in the hopes of bringing him in as their quarterback of the future. The team wrote a plea on its website as General Manager Bill Farmer said he contacted Tebow's agent Jimmy Sexton in the hopes of getting him to consider joining the team as a role model and a quarterback. The plea asked for support from fans and the community on Twitter and was called the 'Push For Tebow' and the team asked people to write 'Bring Tebow to San Angelo!'
The league is a regional indoor football organization in Texas and Tebow wouldn't have been the only former NFL star, as Amarillo Venom quarterback Nate Davis also played in the league. Tebow has received offers from the Canadian Football League, Arena League and other indoor leagues, but this was the first offer from the Lone Star Football League. Tebow looked as if he would never get another NFL job at one point, which spurred the move, which also helped bring attention to the team in the community.
Tebow now joins a team with Super Bowl aspirations instead of one that is in last place at 1-6 after losing 49-38 to the Venom last Saturday. Tebow was seen in Patriots minicamp on Tuesday with quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick is expecting to use him as a quarterback this season and not a tight end like many have speculated. The Patriots should be able to use Tebow in better ways than the Jets did, as it was a complete disaster and now Belichick has a chance to stick it to his former team and his division rival by getting some good production out of him where New York couldn't even figure how to get him on the field in correct spots. Tebow is happy to be backing up Brady and while the San Angelo Bandits of the Lone Star Football League would have been nice, a three-time Super Bowl champion team is better.
