Texas Rangers Trade Rumors: Giancarlo Stanton Bait Will Be Profar? Would Marlins Agree?

May 31, 2013 08:49 AM EDT

The Texas Rangers could be losing some of their outfielders after 2013 and the question is, with Jurickson Profar as potentially one of the better players in the near future, would the Miami Marlins have any interests in moving their established star, Giancarlo Stanton?

We know, the Marlins have been extremely clear about not having interests in moving Stanton. However, as they continue to build up their farm system in search of the chance to become once again a competitive team in baseball, the Rangers have some young parts they can move, one being Profar.

Profar is only 20 years old and is a shortstop. He's also making a splash in his first opportunities to play professional ball. He's 10-27 with a home run, five RBI and a .370 batting average in just seven games played. Profar would bring excitement and would be a great young guy to build around, although of course, Stanton is the more sure case after proving that his power wasn't just a one-time thing.

The Rangers have Nelson Cruz and David Murphy as their corner outfielders, but following 2013, these two guys might find themselves in another uniform. There is no doubt, if the Rangers have space, Stanton would love to play in that park and probably wouldn't mind hitting in front of one Adrian Beltre. Beltre would provide the protection Stanton never hand in Miami.

Once again though, the Marlins have been very clear what their plans are with their star pupil as Stanton seems to be the future for Miami. After trading almost the entire team to Toronto, the Marlins organization decided to stick with their slugger, though he wasn't happy with the front office's decisions. He found himself getting pitched around in 2013 and it took him until April 26 before hitting his first home runs of the year.

The Rangers have had solid young talent take over their rosters, maybe the Marlins decide to listen?
