Rumor has it that Real Madrid will plan to make a push for free-agent-to-be Tiago Splitter, of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, as their top target during the offseason, according to Spanish radio station Cadena SER.

Splitter, is well-known and very popular in Spain's Liga ACB, where he played 10 seasons for three different clubs. In 2010 he shared the MVP honors with Tau Cerámica, before signing with the Spurs for the 2010-11 NBA season.

He has established himself as starter for the Spurs in just his third season. Though his numbers remained consistent - 10.3 points and 6.4 rebounds in 2012-13 compared to 9.3 and 5.2 in 2011-12 -Splitter has proved to be a viable defensive presence for the Spurs playing alongside teammate Tim Duncan.

It still remains to be seen whether or not Real Madrid can afford Splitter. As a solid sized big man who can be used in different schemes, primarily as a pick-and-roll player, Splitter is due to earn an NBA contract that would range from $6-10 million per season.

Currently he's making $3.9 million per season with one year qualifying offer of $4.9 million. Real Madrid's highest paid player, Rudy Fernandez, is currently making a net income of $3.9 million per season.

The Spurs have currently made their way back into the NBA Finals after a Western Conference finals sweep over the Memphis Grizzlies. They await the winner of the Eastern Conference finals between the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat.
