Formula One Results: Rosberg Emulates Father Keke to Win Monaco GP in Accident-Filled Race

Nico Rosberg became the first son of a Monaco Grand Prix champion to repeat the feat after the German, driving his Mercedes, pulled off a start-to-finish victory in an incident filled race at the famous street circuit.

Rosberg won his first ever Monaco GP, exactly 30 years after father Keke pulled off the victory here in the principality.

Starting from pole position, the Mercedes driver overcame a red flag and two safety car incidents to take home the title in impressive style.

Sebastian Vettel came in second with Red Bull teammate Mark Webber taking third.

The first incident came in the 30th lap when Felipe Massa crashed his Ferrari in a similar accident to the one he suffered in Saturday's practise.

The safety car was deployed and that proved to be unlucky for Lewis Hamilton, who had to wait for Rosberg to pit, which allowed Vettel and Webber to go ahead of him.  Hamilton, as a result, would eventually finish fourth, and with it extinguishing the hopes of a Mercedes one-two.

The race was far from over when it came to action, with the red flag brought out after Pastor Maldonado and Max Shilton got into a big accident. Thankfully both drivers were unharmed, but the race had to be stopped to clear the considerable debris.

Once the race restarted in the 48th lap, it looked like the order would remain the same until the end, with Rosberg looking particularly strong, but another crash between Romain Grosjean of Lotus and Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso brought out the safety car for the second time.

Racing resumed in the 67th lap, and Rosberg held on to complete a richly deserved victory. However, Mercedes might get into a bit of trouble after Red Bull and Ferrari lodged protests over the former's three-day tyre testing run, which is not allowed under the new rules.

Vettel, who has 107 points this season, took second to extend his driver's championship lead to 21 points, after Lotus' Kimi Raikkonen could only manage tenth following an incident with McLaren's Sergio Perez.

"He (Perez) hit me from behind and that's about all there is to it," Raikkonen said of the accident. "If he thinks it's my fault that he came into the corner too fast then he obviously has no idea what he's talking about.

"It's not the first time he's hit someone in the race; he seems to expect people to be always looking at what he might do, then move over or go straight on if he comes into the corner too quick and isn't going to make it without running into someone.

"Because of one stupid move from Sergio we've lost a lot of points to Sebastian in the championship and you can't afford to lose ground like that."

Fernando Alonso, who could only finish seventh, is third in the standings with 78 points, eight behind Raikkonen.

Results: 1. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes); 2. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull); 3. Mark Webber (Red Bull); 4. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes); 5. Adrian Sutil (Force India); 6. Jenson Button (McLaren); 7.
