New York Jets Rumors: Geno Smith Chooses Jay-Z's Company For Representation

May 23, 2013 10:56 AM EDT

Jay-Z's newly formed Roc Nation Sports agency has been signing athletes from various walks of sports since being formed, now add New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith to the list of represented athletes.

According to USA Today, Smith announced after Wednesday's organized team activities practice of his decision to sign with Roc Nation Sports as his representation, choosing a relative unknown in Kimberly Miale as his contract agent.

Currently Jay-Z is not certified by the NFL Players Association, so thus the reason Miale will have to handle all contract negotiations.

Miale currently has two inactive clients under her representation, linebacker Brandon Hicks and kicker Carlos Martinez. Neither have appeared in an NFL game.

"Not that big of a role. It's just the agency," Smith said when asked if Jay-Z was a factor, though few will believe that claim after seeing an Instagram photo of the two. "When you're talking about being in New York from the standpoint of what they can do through the city, all the connections they have, I think it's a good move.

"My mother and my family is comfortable with it, I'm comfortable with it. I'm just going to move on from there, not let it be a big deal, remain humble and keep focusing on football."

Smith interviewed with various agencies after firing his first group of agents. He met with Joel Segal, who represents his college teammate and now current St. Louis Rams wide receiver Tavon Smith, as well as a few other agencies before making his decision.
