At this point in the free agency process, Charles Woodson has nothing to lose. Any team showing interest this late in the period can only mean good things for Woodson, increasing his chances at returning to the field for 2013. After a visit with the Denver Broncos ended without a contract, there are stills doors open for Woodson. With a visit to the Oakland Raiders scheduled for Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys could be the next team up as a potential landing spot for the veteran.
The Cowboys are relatively weak at the safety position which makes a pursuit of Woodson not out of the ordinary. Dallas drafted JJ Wilcox in the third round, so while they have some youth at the position, they do not have someone ready to start Week One. The same goes with Matt Johnson who was the team's fourth-round pick in 2012. He missed his entire rookie season with an injury so he will have some catching up to do in order to get on the field.
Barry Church is the likely starter at this point in time, but the team could benefit from bringing in a future Hall of Fame athlete like Woodson. The former Defensive Player of the Year will not be a full-time starter with the Cowboys but could give the team a lot of versatility and experience. Woodson was primarily a strong safety at Green Bay while spending time a cornerback, so Church would have a lot to learn from him.
The Cowboys have almost no cap space so they would be the team that offered Woodson the smallest amount of money, but they have a chance at being a top team this season, something Woodson has been looking for. If he can put money and ego aside, the Cowboys might have a great chance at landing him.
The Raiders are still sitting at the top of the list at the moment for Woodson. The team has an initial offer on the table as the former Raider is set to visit on Tuesday. The fans certainly want to see Woodson make a return to the team where his career began. They have taken to social media to begin a campaign for fans to show up at the facilities to welcome Woodson back to Oakland.
While nothing is set in stone for Woodson to return, he has expressed desire to go to a rebuilding team and Oakland could be the best spot. He played with the Raiders for eight years and if the fans have it their way, his career with end in the exact spot where it began.
