Robert Griffin III might be the most popular athlete in Washington, but following the summer he will no longer be the most eligible bachelor, as the Redskins quarterback is planning no marrying his girlfriend.
According to the Washington Post, Griffin and girlfriend Rebecca Liddicoat are planning to get married in July, which was revealed by his mother as well as a gift registry at Bed Bath and Beyond, which lists the wedding as July 6. Griffin has kept the wedding under wraps until now, which is the way he usually is about things, said his mother Jackie to Fox DC.
Griffin has been with his girlfriend since college and the two are listed for the registry for July 6 in Virginia. Griffin has become one of the most popular players in the NFL and while he keeps a low profile in the tabloids, he has been the opposite on the field while winning the rookie of the year and leading the Redskins back to the playoffs.
Griffin had to undergo knee surgery after the season, but he is expected to be ready for opening of training camp and could be back for Week 1 depending on how the rest of the summer plays out. Griffin has been able to meet President Obama and he also was at the Kentucky Derby while keeping busy during the offseason. Griffin is one of the most popular figures in Washington and some say his approval rating is better than the president's.
"You would never know, based on his press conferences and everything he does in the media, but he still has that shyness to him and that quietness to him," she explained. "He loves being at home, quiet and to himself. That hasn't changed."
