Rolando McClain Rumors: Judge Drops False Identity Charge, Baltimore Ravens Likely to Retain Linebacker

Rolando McClain saw his chances at remaining with the Baltimore Ravens begin to improve on Thursday. The linebacker who has suffered multiple arrests is attempting to get a second chance at an NFL career. After being dropped by the Oakland Raiders for off-the-field, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens and then proceeded to get arrested again. However, a city judge has dismissed at least one charge against McClain, making his future one shade brighter.

McClain had originally been charged with lying to police about his identity after writing profanity on a ticket for a window-tint violation that he received on April 21. The charge was dropped at the request of the prosecution. McClain pleaded guilty to a tint violation and paid a $182 fine because of it.

The linebacker still has other charges pending. He is scheduled to appear back in court in June on reckless driving charges and then again in July for charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. If convicted, he could serve community service time or see possible jail time.

Despite all of this, the Baltimore Ravens have come out in support of McClain. Assistant general manager Eric DeCosta thinks the Ravens are the perfect place for McClain to get a second chance in the league.

"I think this about McClain, he deserves a second chance. If you asked him, he would probably admit to making some mistakes. We think he warrants a second chance. Obviously, he's an Alabama guy," DeCosta said.

Prior to McClain being arrested for a third time, owner Ozzie Newsome made it clear that he would have to earn his roster spot. They have given him an opportunity to be on the 53-man team, but his final spot remains in question. They have put a mentor program in place for McClain in hopes that he can put his troubled past behind him once and for all.

Currently, McClain sits fourth on the depth chart for inside linebacker behind Jameel McClain, Arthur Brown and Josh Brynes. It is unclear how his recent arrest will play into his spot with the team. Already on a short leash, his off-the-field issues could affect his availability. As of now, he will pay a $186 fine for the tinted windows and await his other court dates.
