NFL free agent linebacker Michael Boley was arrested three days after being cut by the New York Giants for a felony child abuse charge in Alabama and following the news of the incident, his agents put out a statement about the charges.

According to Pro Football Talk, Boley was arrested on charges due to a plea deal reached by the linebacker and the court, stating that he would plead guilty to the charge instead of sending it to a grand jury, after which he could enter a program and the charges dropped. According to the report, he violated Section 26-15-3 of the Alabama Code, which says adults cannot "willfully" abuse a child under 18 years of age.

On Friday his agents put out a statement regarding the issue, saying that Boley pleaded guilty for procedural reasons and that he a loving father to his children. The incident happened in 2011 and Boley went with the plea deal to get the situation behind him. Boley is still a free agent after contributing to the Giants Super Bowl title in 2011 and he was a cap casualty, as the team said they did now know of the incident when the cut him.

"Mr. Boley is dealing with a personal matter that allegedly happened nearly two years ago.  Michael has been and always will be a loving and supportive father to all of his children.  Due to the circumstances of the situation, he has chosen to enter into an arrangement with the Courts that serves the best interest of his family.  During this difficult time, Michael will gain strength from his family and continue to be the loving father that everyone knows him to be.  We ask that everyone respect the Boley family's privacy at this time," it read.
