Well, that didn't take long. Soon after Jason Collins came out in a cover story on Sports Illustrated as a homosexually active player, another player came out and wrote something homophobic on Twitter, as Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace decided he couldn't help but express his opinions.
According to the LA Times, Wallace posted two tweets about being gay, not mentioning Collins by name, saying that with all the women in the world, why would guys want other guys and about hoe he doesn't understand homosexuality. While everyone is entitled to an opinion, people like Wallace are why athletes have been wary about coming out in professional sports and Collins has already shown courage and respect for who he is, while Wallace is showing his ignorance for other people.
While not mentioning Collins's name, Wallace wrote about "guys wanna mess with guys" even though there are "all these beautiful women in the world" and soon after, because he realized that he said something dumb, deleted the tweets. He later said he wasn't "bashing anybody" but "I just don't understand it," even though he clearly bashed someone.
He then said: "Never said anything was right or wrong I just said I don't understand!! Deeply sorry for anyone that I offended." Look, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but Wallace is an idiot, maybe you think you weren't offending anyone, but you did with what you said and now Wallace looks like an ignorant bigot, which he probably is. Deleting tweets just shows that he was trying to be cool with what he said and guess what, it didn't work. Read a book Mike, if you can, perhaps you don't understand that either.
