The New York Jets drafted Geno Smith in the second round of the draft and that has far reaching effects, as Mark Sanchez may be released according to ESPN.com and that could create a new situation for Tim Tebow, as he may remain with the team or get released as well, leaving Smith as the primary option with David Garrard for next season. According to ESPN.com, Sanchez has not been asked to restructure yet and sources say that he could be released.

The New York Jets traded for Tim Tebow just over a year ago and one year after the trade, the team still has no idea what to do with the quarterback and all signs point to a trade or a likely release if they can't find someone to take him off their hands, because as they proved during the 2012 season the coaches could not find a way to successfully integrate him into the offense.

According to ESPN.com, the team is planning to release Tebow if they can't work out a trade and despite the rumors that he will not be with the team next year, the quarterback is planning to participate in voluntary offseason workouts. When the Jets traded for Tebow from the Broncos last year they took on his five year rookie contract, meaning he is still under team control for two more years. While the Jets would like to trade him, no team in the NFL has been willing to make a deal, leaving them with the option of releasing the quarterback.

Tebow has spent the offseason working on his game and the Jets are entering workouts with Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy, Matt Simms and David Garrard at quarterback along with Tebow. The former Florida star has been working out in Arizona as well as with Heisman winner Chris Weinke in Florida, where he has been working on his throwing and foot mechanics.

Tebow also spent time in Tampa at Jesuit High School with former NFL quarterback Vinny Testaverde, who is an assistant coach for the school team. Tebow previously worked out with the former Heisman winner earlier in the offseason and as the draft approaches the Jets may decide to release him. Getting cut could be the best thing for Tebow, as he could end up with a team that actually wants to use him, but one that probably wasn't willing to trade for it since the league knows the Jets will do that.

Once he is cut, some interesting fits for Tebow could be the Seattle Seahawks and the Cleveland Browns, as both teams made trades of their backup quarterbacks and need someone to replace them. The Seahawks were mentioned in trade rumors, but the team did not explore the option, but if Tebow was a free agent, things could change.

The team traded Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders, leaving the spot behind Russell Wilson open. Flynn never got the chance to start and Tebow would not sniff it either, making it a possible option as Pete Carroll knows how to run an offense and is an out of the box type of guy. The Browns also could be a fit after losing Campbell and since the team is now coached by Rob Chudzinski, it could be even better, as he was able to turn Cam Newton into a beast.

Tebow was misused in New York and despite gaining only 102 yards on the ground and 39 in the air, the quarterback could be a valuable addition to a team in 2013.
