Tyrann Mathieu is one of the most talented players in the NFL draft and if not for his drug issues there is a chance that he could have been a top 10 pick on Thursday, but after being kicked off the LSU Tigers he may end up as a late round pick, possibly on Friday by a number of teams, including the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers.
According to CBS Sports, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant said that her thinks Mathieu is the best player in the draft and while he reportedly failed 10 drug tests during his career, the cornerback will likely be taken on day two. The cornerback was the winner of the Chuck Bednarik Award as the best defender in college football and he is still is considered a top talent.
The New York reportedly were interested in him, while the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers have also been linked to him and since the Pats have an extra few picks after trades, as do the 49ers, both teams could take a risk and take him earlier than some teams expected. The New Orleans Saints could trade in or wait until the third round, while the Seahawks have also been linked to him. There was come controversy after a flyer went around promoting a party for him as a "first round" draft pick, but he decided to cancel it an instead spent the night in the city at dinner and not at a club.
Fox Sports' Jay Glazer was on the Dan Patrick show on Friday and said that Mathieu was set to meet with the Texans and Seahawks last week, but did not show up, with his agents citing him being sick.
