NFL Draft 2013 Rumors: Jacksonville Jaguars Consider Trade Down in Second Round as Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles Interested in Quarterback

The Jacksonville Jaguars shocked many by drafting tackle Luke Joeckle with the No. 2 overall pick. Many experts had them begged to draft Geno Smith in the first round. The team is in need of an upgrade at quarterback since current starter Blaine Gabbert has yet to pan out as a professional quarterback. Instead, they went for a guy that can protect whoever is playing under center. Now, as the second round approaches, the Jaguars have the No. 33 pick overall selection and have their choice of any player remaining. Naturally, they take Smith here, right? No, instead general manager Dave Caldwell is considering trading down in the second round in an effort to get more picks.

All of the top quarterbacks still remain on the board with multiple teams interested in them. While the first round saw a run on linemen and defensive ends, the second round will see many of the position players picked up right away. Quality talent remains at wide receiver, running back andquarterback. Numerous teams have their sights set on specific players and will make a pull for the No. 33 pick.

The Jaguars are still likely to draft a quarterback but are not targeting Smith specifically. They have expressed interest in Barkley and Nassib alike. Smith will be the next quarterback drafted, so if the Jaguars do not feel pressured to grab someone right away, they will attempt to trade.

The Arizona Cardinals could be likely trade partners. They do not draft until the sixth pick in the second round and are interested in a quarterback. The Philadelphia Eagles draft four picks ahead of them and will also look to take a quarterback. If the Arizona Cardinals get nervous, they will try and jump everyone to get the best.

The second round is where the remaining top quarterbacks will be taken. Teams that either did not grab one during free agency or signed a veteran will want a rookie to put on the roster as well. The Jaguars are in a position with a lot of leverage and they intend on making it work for them.
