NBA News And Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers To Pursue Mike Brown As Head Coach?

Apr 19, 2013 12:02 PM EDT

After parting ways with coach Byron Scott, the Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly rumored to be in pursuit of former head coach Mike Brown.

Brown, who recently moved his family back to the Cleveland area, says he's all ears to possible return.

"If anybody calls, you have to listen,'' said Brown, who was fired by the Lakers just five games into this season. "I'm not rushing to get back to [coaching]. Whether it's the Cavs situation or anybody else, it has to feel right for both sides.

"If they call, I wouldn't hang up the phone. I'd definitely listen to what anybody has to say. But then you have to decide if it's the right situation for myself, my family and the organization.''

According to ESPN, Cavaliers eneral manager Chris Grant declined to address a direct question about Brown's candidacy during a news conference Thursday.

"We have not started that process," Grant said. "We're looking for someone with proven success, looking for someone who has a strong defensive system, someone who is a teacher, grinder and a worker."

These rumors come on the heels of the firing of Scott on Thursday morning. In his last season with the Cavaliers they lost 16 of their final 18 games to finish 24-58, the third-worst record in the NBA.

Scott's tenure with the team was marred by poor defense and injuries to key players as they franchise began their rebuilding project in the wake of LeBron James' departure to the Miami Heat in free agency in 2010.

"I have tremendous respect for Byron professionally and a great deal of admiration for him personally," Grant said. "At the same time, it is critical for where we are as a team to ensure that we capitalize on every opportunity for development and success, and we have fallen short of that on the court. I believe we needed to make this change in order to get to a better position to achieve our goals."
