Maria Sharapova is one of the most popular athletes in the world and as the richest tennis player on tour she is more than just an athlete, she is also a brand and a businesswoman, which is one reason why she has launched her own candy line called Sugarpova, which is a play of her name.
According to Fox Sports, Sharapova has launched her first big business venture in the candy line and the star said that she was looking to create something of her own and thought that candy provided an excellent outlet. Sharapova is one of the most endorsed athletes in the world and now she has a business endorsement all of her own in the candy company.

She first debuted the candy at the US Open in 2012 for a soft launch with gum and gummies and now some of the designs and packing have been changed as well as some candy options. Sharapova now launched the candy at places like Tabula Rasa Essentials, where she was over the weekend and she said that the product has been an early success.
"I really wanted to start something of my own, to start my own business," Sharapova said. "When the name Sugarpova came about, I loved the energy of it. When we put it together with candy, I just felt like it was a great opportunity."
Sharapova is selling the candy internationally and it helps that the French Open is coming up, which is a tournament she won just last year and she is selling the candy in both France and England.
"It's about adapting and understanding and working from there," Sharapova said. "You're building a brand from scratch with your own money and your own decisions. So there's a lot on the line but I really like making those decisions."
Sharapova is one of the biggest athletes in the world and now she has the candy to show for it.
