NFL Draft Rumors: Geno Smith To Visit New York Jets While Tim Tebow Plans For Workouts, Cleveland Browns Target Ryan Nassib At Quarterback

Geno Smith was long considered to be the top quarterback in the draft and now that a number of teams have acquired new starts for next season, the position where the West Virginia quarterback will be taken has changed and that bodes well for the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets, who Smith will visit this week.

According to NFL.com, Smith will be with the Jets during the week on Wednesday and Thursday and will later have private workouts with the Cleveland Browns over the weekend. The Kansas City Chiefs are not expected to take Smith at number one after trading for Alex Smith, as they likely will take Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher on the offensive line with the number one pick. The team has looked at Smith and may use their interest a trade option, but they will likely stand pat and select one of the highly rated tackles.

At number two the Jaguars are an intriguing option and although they tried to trade for Matt Flynn, the team appears set with quarterback Blaine Gabbert and rumors say they will take Alabama corner Dee Milliner or possibly Sharrif Floyd from Florida, keeping the Gators beast in state. There is a chance that the Jaguars could trade out as well, but Smith could be the pick here, but it seems like a longshot now.

The Raiders at number three are someone that can take Smith, but reports have the team working out Ryan Nassib and seeing him as a better prospect. The Raiders just traded for Matt Flynn and while he isn't a long-term option, the team has done a good job of adding talent to the roster with names like Nick Roach, Kevin Burnett, Tracy Porter and Mike Jenkins and they likely will take the best player rather than Smith. Some options are Milliner, Fisher if he is not picked, as well as Sharrif Floyd or Jarvis Jones.

The Browns will likely get the first shot at Smith with the number five pick and he could be an addition to the mix with Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell, who the team signed this offseason. Weeden was picked by the last regime and since he is nearly 30, the team may want a younger option for the future.

The Jets are a complete mess and if they get a chance at Smith at nine they will probably take him, because why not, they already have Mark Sanchez, David Garrard, Matt Simms, Greg McElroy and some dude named Tim Tebow, so obviously another quarterback is the answer. Tebow will likely be gone despite sources saying that he will be appearing at voluntary workouts that start next Monday, but those same sources said the Jets are ready to cut him.

Smith could be a nice fit actually for the Jets despite the logjam at quarterback and if they get the chance to take him they will likely do it. The team is also working on getting Tampa's number 13 pick in a trade for Darrelle Revis.
