Arsene Wenger recently admitted that Arsenal now needed to look at the German and Spanish markets for players, with his favorite French market struggling to produce the same amount of quality of previous seasons.
Well, now it seems like Wenger is ready to act on his words, with the Arsenal manger reportedly planning a triple raid on the Bundesliga.
Wenger is preparing summer bids for Borussia Dortmund pair Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski along with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Gotze, of course, has been a long-term target for Arsenal, with Dortmund reportedly rejecting a big-money bid from the Gunners a couple of years back.
The German international has only improved with every passing season, and recently admitted he would be open to a move abroad - although he did not mention Arsenal as a possible destination.
The 20-year-old, however, has previously stated he would like a move to either Arsenal or Barcelona, owing to their playing styles.
The Gunners are not the big fish that they used to be a few years back, with every disappointing season denting their stature amongst Europe's elite clubs.
However, Wenger is desperate to bring Arsenal back in focus again, for the right reasons, and a statement of intent will be made if he can bring in Gotze, who reportedly has a £30 million ($45 million) release clause.
Lewandowski is the other reported Arsenal target from Dortmund. The Polish international striker is expected to leave the German champions at the end of the season, with Lewandowski choosing to not sign a new contract.
The 24-year-old's current deal expires in 2014, so Dortmund might be forced to sell their asset, or risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Bayern Munich and Manchester United are thought to be the frontrunners for the prolific forward's signature. However, with United more than loaded in the striker's department, and Dortmund reluctant to sell to their biggest rivals Bayern, Arsenal could yet sneak in a move.
All will depend on Lewandowski's desire to switch to North London, though, with Arsenal still to convince they can seriously challenge for the English Premier League title.
Lars Bender looks like the most likely candidates among the three. The midfielder has been in good form for Leverkusen this season, and with Wenger looking for a ball-winning midfielder in the middle of the park for next season, the German international fits the bill perfectly.
Bender, whose brother Sven incidentally plays for Dortmund, is also highly versatile and is capable of filling in at right-back if necessary. Bender is likely to cost Arsenal around £10-15 million ($15-23 million).
