Arsenal Transfer News: Edinson Cavani Wanted by Manchester City, But Will Arsene Wenger Also Make a Serious Move in the Summer?

Manchester City confirmed they are still very much in the hunt for Napoli forward Edinson Cavani.

Cavani is expected to be one of the most highly sought after players in the summer transfer window after yet another impressive campaign for Napoli in the Serie A.

The 26-year-old, who has also been linked with moves to Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea, recently admitted he does not know where his future lies, opening up the chances of the interested clubs to make a move, even though Napoli slapped a £60 million ($90 million) price tag on the 26-year-old.

"Football is a business," he told El Observador. "In Napoli I am fine as I have the love of the fans, but in football you never know where you play in the future.

"Much also depends on the club and the decisions of the president."

City have been the team which has been linked with the Uruguayan the most, and the English Premier League champions' defensive coach Angelo Gregucci admitted the striker is still very much on the club's radar.

"He is an important player and any club which wants to be better must look at players like him," Gregucci told Radio Crc.

"Mancini has expressed his appreciation for Cavani, but there is no 'exclusive' for City."

Arsenal are another team reportedly showing an interest in Cavani, with Arsene Wenger earlier expressing his admiration for the player.

However, the Gunners are never thought of as serious contenders due to the transfer fees and wages that would be involved in such a deal.

Arsenal, however, do need a proven striker capable of getting 25-30 goals a year, and with over £100 million ($150 million) of cash available, a sensational move which would surprise everyone in the sport, cannot be entirely ruled out - as Wenger pointed out himself.

There have also been plenty of cases where the quoted amount in the media has not even come close to the actual transfer amount paid by the interested club; for instance Mario Balotelli was being quoted at around £30 million ($45 million) - not to mention his agent's claims that his client was more valuable than the Mona Lisa -- but was sold to AC Milan for less than £20 million ($30 million).

Of course the circumstances in that move were different and there were a lot of other factors that were involved - but City's public stance on that case was Balotelli was not for sale, while Milan kept telling everyone there were not interested.

At the end of the day, stranger things have happened. Pulling off a move for some one of the caliber Cavani -- whatever the price - will not just appease the growingly frustrated fans, but will only be a statement of intent to the other clubs that Arsenal are still a force to reckon with.
