Mar 23, 2013 03:31 PM EDT

The No. 4 Michigan Wolverines defeated the No. 5 VCU Rams in the third round of the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament 78-53 becoming the first team to advance to the Sweet 16. Thanks to the great defense they call "Havoc" and a great day shooting from the floor, Michigan was able to easily defeat their foe and now they await an opponent.

With four players in double figures scoring, Michigan ran away with the victory early in the first half. Mitch McGary led the offense with 21 points on 10-11 shooting and completed the double-double along with 14 rebounds in the game. Trey Burke added 18 points and seven assists despite having ball handling troubles after also committing seven turnovers.

As a team, Michigan shot close to 52 percent in this game as it took the entire team to play this well.

VCU received a solid contribution from Juvonte Reddic, who scored 16 points on 7-11 shooting. VCU shot under 40 percent in this one and they only made 3-16 threes.

VCU wasn't out of it immediately. With 10:40 left to play, VCU was just one point behind Michigan as the scoreboard read 17-18. However, by the time the half ended, Michigan had gone on a 20-6 run as they led 38-23.

It was pretty much over by that point since Michigan's offense and defense didn't let up in the second half.

VCU cut the double-digit lead to nine points early in the second period, but the McGary hit shot after shot, increased Michigan's lead and the team put it away as they took a 20-point lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the game.

Next up for Michigan it's either No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks or No. 8 UNC Tar Heels.
