Arsenal Transfer News: Five Barcelona Players to Sign for the Gunners in the Summer?

Arsenal fans have been left frustrated watching Barcelona come and cherry pick their best players, for what seems like little money, time and again. However, a sensational turnaround could be on the cards, with the Gunners being linked with five players from the Spanish giants.

Arsenal are finally expected to spend some of that excess cash that has been around for a while now, with the debt well in control and lucrative contracts on the horizon.

Wenger has also finally admitted he needs to be proactive in the transfer window and bring in quality to match the quality that goes out every year.

Barcelona are as good a club as there has been for quite a while, and bringing in any player from their squad can only make Arsenal better.

The Gunners have been extensively linked with David Villa and Victor Valdes of course, with Wenger only failing to land the former in January due to Barcelona's unwillingness to sell in midseason.

While those two will add that much needed experience, the Gunners are also considering making a move for three others - one of whom will be quite familiar to every single Gooner.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to spend the bulk of their transfer budget on Alex Song, Alexis Sanchez and Martin Montoya, according to Italian website Tutto Mercato.

Wenger will need a rightback in the summer, if Sagna does decide to leave at the end of the season, and Montoya has shown enough promise to prove that he will succeed in a free flowing passing side like the Gunners.

At 21, he is the right age for Wenger, but there is one problem in the fact that he is Barcelona through and through. The likelihood of him wanting to leave Barca are slim at best, with the youngster seen as the natural successor to Dani Alves.

And Arsenal should be reluctant to buy a Barcelona-bred player, because chances are he will want to move back to his hometown club at one point, similar to Cesc Fabregas.

Sanchez is an interesting target. At one point, when Barca bought the Chilean forward, he was one of the most sought after players in Europe and Barca thought they had got a player who will add to the quality that already existed in spades.

However, Sanchez's time with Barca has been underwhelming to say the least, even if his lack of opportunities can be seen as one of the reasons.

There is no doubting his talent though. He is quick, can set up goals as well as score them and is capable of playing across the forward line. At 24, his best years are ahead of him and Barca are reportedly willing to let him go for a fee of around £15 million ($22.5 million).

The third name would be Song, who has been declared a flop by the Spanish public. The former Arsenal midfielder was one of the first names on the teamsheet in North London, and now with Barca he is lucky to get any playing time at all, and has to rely on the lesser important matches or injuries to get in the playing XI.

Wenger is not a big fan of bringing a former player back though, and he obviously sold Song for a reason, so the chances of this transfer happening are not that great.

Villa and Valdes are the names that will excite fans more, even if the duo is over 30. Time is ripe for Wenger to bring in some quality and, while obviously all of the above mentioned names won't be an Arsenal player next season, a couple will do just as well.
