Legendary Real Madrid player Emilio Butragueno does not expect Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Manchester United anytime soon.

There have been plenty of reports suggesting the Portuguese superstar could be on his way back to Old Trafford, after stalling on signing a new deal with Real.

Ronaldo was also humbled by the ovation he received from the United faithful when Real set foot at Old Trafford to play in the second leg last 16 match of the Champions League.

Sir Alex Ferguson has always said he would love for Ronaldo to return to the club where he made a name for himself and enjoyed much success, while the 28-year-old himself has admitted a return was always a possibility.

However, Ferguson has also played down the chances of a move, saying the reports of a comeback could be a ploy while his agents negotiate a new contract with Real, and Butragueno, who is now a director at Real, also believes Ronaldo is going to stay at the Bernabeu for a few more years yet.

"Cristiano is under contract and we are very happy with him," Butragueno said while speaking at a Manchester United Foundation event to announce a United Legends match against Real Madrid Legends at Old Trafford on June 2.

"We are delighted he is at Madrid because he is a fantastic professional, and very ambitious in a positive way.

"His contribution to the team and the club has been amazing since he arrived.

"We are very grateful he came to us and are lucky he plays for Real Madrid."

The Real legend hinted contract negotiations with Ronaldo were on the horizon, soon after Real's on-field commitments come to an end this season.

"We are all focused on the important matters: the Champions League and Copa del Rey," he said. "That is the most important thing for everyone at the club."

Butragueno also praised Ronaldo for his goalscoring record, which has been over a goal a game, ever since his arrival at Real.

"He scores a goal a game on average," Butragueno added. "This is incredible.

"I have been watching football since I was three and never saw anything like that.

"When Ronaldo is on the pitch, you know you are going to score. It is an incredible advantage."
