Jerry Jones is the head of bringing in new football players to the Dallas Cowboys and after the team cut veteran safety Gerald Sensabaugh, the team will need new options at the position and could look at free agents Dashon Goldson and Charles Woodson.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Cowboys could be interested in Woodson, who was released by the Green Bay Packers after a number of years with the team. He won a Super Bowl and a defensive player of the year award while with the franchise.

The Cowboys have freed up cap space by cutting Sensabaugh and will need more depth in the secondary, as Barry Church is injured and the other players on the roster are untested. Jones still needs to work out an extension with quarterback Tony Romo, but in the past he has overpaid for players and Woodson could be in line for a contract with the team.

The Cowboys have a number of holes to fill on defense after firing coordinator Rob Ryan and adding a Hall of Fame-type player like Woodson could be a huge boon to the unit. Monte Kiffin was hired by the team to replace Ryan and could use Woodson in the same role he used John Lynch in for many years in Tampa Bay.

Although Woodson is 36-years-old, he has shown he can still play at a high level and his agent said that the player has "a lot of football left." He dealt with collarbones injuries over the past two years and missed nine games last season, but once he is healthy he could be a valuable addition.

If Woodson doesn't work out, Goldson could be the next target for the team, as he is one of the top young safeties in the NFL. The 49ers decided not to use the franchise tag on him, meaning that it is likely he will be leaving the team in the offseason for a bigger contract. He wanted  a long-term deal, but the 49ers franchised him last season.

"Hopefully something good comes out of this," he texted the San Francisco Chronicle.

Goldson is looking for a bigger pay day and after being a two-time Pro Bowl player as a 28-year-old, he is still in his prime and will likely want a contract like Eric Berry with the Chiefs, who signed a $60 million, six-year deal.

The Cowboys ranked 19th in passing yards allowed per game and both Woodson and Goldson could help with that. Woodson is a playmaker in the defensive backfield and Goldon has proven to be adept at staying with receivers and finding the ball.

Last season the Cowboys went just 8-8 and missed the playoffs again after losing in the final game of the regular-season. The team has a number of needs heading into the offseason, including signing Romo to an extension, which is a main priority. The team already used its franchise tag on Anthony Spencer and could be ready to make a move in free agency.
