Tim Tebow is one of the most popular athletes in the NFL despite the fact that he is a backup and one reason for that is due to his friendly nature and his commitment to football and working hard.
Although Tebow has not gotten a chance to start in New York, but he did have time earlier this offseason to visit the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where he partnered with Soul Electronics to launch his own line of sports headphones.
It is not the first time Tebow has been involved in technology, as he teamed with New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Saints tight end Jimmy Graham in Indianapolis for the EA Madden Bowl last year. The quarterback spoke with Forbes.com on March 2 about the headphones as well as what motivates him on the field.
Tebow was asked about CES and how his deal came about with Soul Electronics about the new headphones he released.
"It is tough to have time. I think having the right priorities definitely helps, but I have great partners. Juan has been a great partner, and Soul has been a great partner. They've come and we've talked. With the Combat model, I was so interested in having something that was comfortable that I could go run around and practice in before games, I could wear it on the field. So many headphones can be comfortable and sound great, but when you're warming up they're going to fall off, and that's a big distraction," Tebow said.
Tebow spoke in detail about the headphone products and about athletes can use them before games to warm up and how it contains noise cancellation technology so players can be focused while training.
"We'll let the people that try them out...hopefully they'll believe in them. I think for athletes and people that are going to want to work out and train, we have something for them. For someone that is flying a lot that needs that noise cancellation and something comfortable that they can listen to music and sleep with, we've got a pair for them," Tebow said.
The quarterback spoke about his past interest in technology and how he likes listening to music before a game and how it can help to motivate him on the field. He spoke about how the company and the new product were specifically designed to help athletes before games and competitions.
The former Heisman winner also spoke about the connection between music and sports.
"Music is inspirational and moving. When you're getting ready for a game, you're into that music, and you have your headsets that are falling off and aren't staying in place, that's going to be very distracting and distorting. When you have something that's going to hold, be form-fitting and breathable, and you're going to be sweating and exercising but it's still going to go as hard as you're going to go and keep up with you; I think that's something that will do great," Tebow said.
Tebow helped design the actual headphones and he also spoke about how the model can be a good fir for kids. The quarterback spoke about how much he uses technology on a daily basis and that headphones are his primary option since so much technology can be distracting.
One question about the headphones was about a specific model called "The Jet". The interviewer also added, "Do you wish you had more of a chance to show Jets fans what you could have done this year?"
" It's named the Jet, because it's the executive line. It's for people that are flying in jets, flying across the country, and need something that is comfortable. I think it works."
Tebow also was asked if religion helped him inspire the headphones.
"I think my religion and my relationship with Christ inspires everything I do. It inspires who I am, the makeup, and my DNA. I think that's involved in everything I do from on the field, to the Tim Tebow Foundation, to these headphones. It's in everything I do and everything I am."
The quarterback has been the subject of trade talks for weeks after the Jets shopped his value at the NFL scouting combine and if the team can find a partner they will likely deal him. Tebow was supposed to be a change of pace quarterback for the Jets last season, but the team barely used him on offense and also put him on the field as a blocker and punt protector.
Last season with the Jets Tebow was on the field for 73 offensive plays and rushed for 102 yards while completing six of eight passes for 39 yards and zero touchdowns.
