Mar 02, 2013 05:45 PM EST

The Netherlands brought their lumber and went on to defeat Korea 5-0 in the first game of the first round of World Baseball Classic action. Andrelton Simmons and Netherland's pitching became the headline for this one as they dominated Korea in their victory.

Starter Diegomar Maxwell and Orlando Yntema combined for seven innings of scoreless baseball. Maxwell went four innings allowing just two hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Yntema went down on the record for the hold as he pitched three innings giving up two hits, no runs, two walks and a strikeout.

On the offense, leadoff man Andrelton Simmons set the tone going 3-5 scoring two runs. Simmons finished the day with two doubles and a single. Andrew Jones also had a good game going 2-4 with a double, single and a run scored.

Korea's defense wasn't up to par, however, four of the five runs the Netherlands scored were clean. Korea made a total of four errors in the game and were lucky the score remained 5-0. The Netherlands bats were cracking Korean pitching as they finished with 10 hits in the game.

The Korean offense also struggled, managing only four hits of the Netherlands' pitching staff. Jeong Choi might get moved up in the order in the next game since he was the best hitter going 2-3.

Next up for Korea is Australia and it's a must win situation. The Netherlands will face Chinese Taipei, a team that won their first matchup against Australia.
