New York Jets Rumors: Brady Quinn Headed to New York? Team Interested in Quarterback to Compete with Mark Sanchez

Who will be the starting quarterback for the New York Jets next season? The answer to that question is really anyone's guess at this point. Fans are upset with current starter Mark Sanchez. Tim Tebow is on his way out. So what does the team do? With few quarterbacks worthy of a draft pick, do they try and grab a free agent? The Jets are reportedly interested in sign Brady Quinn in order to bring some quarterback competition to New York.

28-year old Quinn is due to become an unrestricted free agent on March 12. Quinn had a strong college career at Notre Dame and was considered a top draft choice. He was selected No. 22 overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2007, where he was the expected new face of the franchise. His career with the Browns never panned out, even though that was mostly due to a poor team overall. He was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2010, before getting benched for Tebow and then eventually traded to Kansas City.

In his five seasons in the NFL, he has a 4-16 record as a starting quarterback. He has never won more than two games in a season. In 2012, Quinn started eight games, leading the Chiefs to a 1-7 record and completing just 57 percent of his passes for 1,141 yards. He had only two touchdowns and eight interceptions. With Kansas City having just picked up Alex Smith, they have no need for Quinn anymore and could dump him off to the Jets.

The Jets are currently strapped for cash, sitting at least $23 million over the salary cap limit. So how can they bring in another quality arm without killing their cap space, Quinn.  He has experience working with current Jets' quarterback coach, David Lee, who is a big fan of Quinns.

"I'm going to tell you this right now: Brady Quinn has a stronger arm than both the Manning brothers. No question. I worked them all out," Lee said.

Compared to Sanchez, Quinn offers little competition. In 2012, Sanchez had a 54.3 completion percentage, throwing for 2,883 yards and 13 touchdowns, but the Jets have made stranger moves. The team plans on bringing in five quarterbacks to training camp. Three of those slots go to Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Matt Simms. Quinn could fill up one of the two open slots. He would carry a low cap number that the Jets could afford to take on.
