The Daytona 500 on Sunday was an exciting race due to the presence of Danica Patrick and her strong finish after winning the pole, but the event was not without some controversy, as after the race Denny Hamlin took out some frustrations on social media.
According to ESPN.com, Hamlin was upset after the race about the driving style of former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Joey Logano, who he thought drove in a disrupting way along the inside track.
"@keselowski sorry I couldn't get close to you cuz your genius teammate was too busy messing up the inside line 1 move at a time," Hamlin wrote on Twitter.
Hamlin got a response to the tweet from fellow Toyota driver Clint Bowyer, who later wrote: "2nd that". Keselowski finished fourth in the race.
Hamlin was mainly displeased with the fact that Logano frequently moved around the track and didn't stick to the inside line with the rest of the drivers. The "genius teammate" comment referred to the fact that Hamlin and Logano were teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing from 2008 to 2012 before joining up with Pensek Racing for the 2013 season.
Logano later responded on Twitter by writing: "@DennyHamlin, I Remember when you were MY genius teammate. #LoveYouMeanIt."
Hamlin finished in 14th place in the race and felt Logano disrupted the flow of the race with the way he drove by making things three-wide instead of sticking to one side of the track. Logano finished 19th in the race behind champion Jimmy Johnson.
Hamlin continued later on Twitter, writing: "@joeylogano inside line was doomed every 3 wide move that was made. Nobody who went 3 middle went anywhere."
Daytona had a couple rough patches and saw most of the drivers fall back into the pack when they tried to move up through the middle. Some of the drivers had issues with drafting and many fell back after taking high places, including Danica Patrick, who was in third place in the final laps before finishing eighth.
The sparks on Twitter were more than any sparks on the track, as the Daytona 500 avoided any serious crashes compared to what happened on Saturday night in the Nationwide race. 28 fans were injured and 14 were taken to the hospital after Kyle Larson's car crashed into the stands and sent debris flying far and wide.
