Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (C) and LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck (R) announce a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and capture of fugitive Christopher Dorner during a news conference at the LAPD headquarters in Los Angeles, California February 10, 2013. The record reward was posted on Sunday for information leading to the capture of a fugitive former Los Angeles cop suspected of targeting police officers and their families in three killings committed in retaliation for his 2008 firing. Christopher Dorner is a fugitive in the Los Angeles area after killing three people and while the police have had trouble tracking him, a purchase he made of scuba gear two days before his rampage could help point in the right direction.

According to TMZ, surveillance footage captured showed Dorner purchasing scuba gear and other items at a sporting goods business in Torrance, Calif., on Feb. 1. The video shows him carrying scuba tanks filled with oxygen as well as a black tank, according to LAObserved.com.

Dorner attempted to steal a boat a few days later and the police have been searching the Big Bear Lake area 80 miles east of Los Angeles after his truck was found burning there last week.

Dorner has been on a rampage around Los Angeles and he killed a police officer on top of the two murders he already committed, which started his run.

The former LAPD cop is suspected of killing 28-year-old Monica Quan and 27-year-old Keith Lawrence. Quan was a Cal State Fullerton coach and Lawrence was her fiancé. The police said that there was a connection between the Cal State Fullerton basketball coach and the officer, as her father represented the suspect in front of a disciplinary board when he lost his job, police said.

Dorner was with the department from 2005 until 2008, but he was fired after making false statements, which led him to Quan's father, Randal Quan, a former LAPD captain who became a lawyer in retirement. The father represented Dormer in front of the Board of Rights, a tribunal that ruled against Dorner at the time of his dismissal, LAPD Capt. William Hayes said.

Dorner alos wrote a manifesto posted to Facebook that mentioned many cops and their families, leaving the police to give around the clock protection for the possible targets. Tim Tebow was even mentioned in the posting

From the report: "Tebow, I really wanted to see you take charge of an offense again and the game. You are not a good QB by todays standards, but you are a great football player who knows how to lead a team and WIN. You will be "Tebowing" when you reach your next team. I have faith in you. Get out of that circus they call the Jets and away from the reality TV star, Rex Ryan, and Mark Rapist Sanchez."

Dorner referenced how Tebow was able to take charge of the Denver Broncos in 2011, leading the team to a division title and a playoff win against the Steelers, after the quarterback hit wideout Demariyus Thomas on the first play of overtime.

He also mentioned the "Tebowing" trend that took off after Tebow was seen kneeling down and praying on the field. Tebow was in a rough situation with the Jets this season and was used sporadically on offense. He threw only eight passes and completed six for 39 yards and rushed for 102 yards on 32 carries.
