Arsenal fans will have a wide grin on their faces, and not just after their side pulled off an impressive 1-0 away win at Sunderland, but after it was confirmed by Andre Santos himself that he is closing in on a move to Gremio.
Santos has turned into an almost comical figure at the Emirates, following a series of mistakes in pretty much every game he has played at this season.
There were reports of an impending move to Gremio, after the Brazilian club's president admitted his side were interested in bringing in the left-back to his home country.
The move is understood to be a loan until December, and Santos said he is looking forward to playing under manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
"I have the best expectations," Santos told Lancenet at the airport. "They are one of the biggest clubs in the country.
"I've come to Gremio to be a champion. I am very excited about this project.
"I have dreamed of working with Luxemburgo. He is a top manager in our football."
The 29-year-old has endured a torrid time since making his move from Fenerbahce to Arsenal, failing to establish himself in the left-back role, as well as causing uproar with some off field issues.
Santos will not go down as one of Arsene Wenger's astute signings, and if the move is confirmed as expected by Arsenal, it will be interesting to see who the manager decides to play at left-back in the Champions League game against Bayern Munich.
Thomas Vermaelen is an option, but has been laid low recently by an ankle injury, while Kieran Gibbs is out injured and deadline day signing Nacho Monreal is cup-tied.
Younster Jernade Meade is also an option, or Wenger might just decide to play Bacary Sagna at left-back, with Carl Jenkinson slotting in on the right.
Arsenal put in one of their best defensive performances of the season against Sunderland Saturday, and Wenger will be keen to build on that success, as the team continue to look good going forward.
Whatever course of action Wenger decides, one thing is for sure: the majority of the Arsenal fans will be breathing a sigh of relief now that Santos looks unlikely to face the might of Bayern.
